Third draft of Magazine
Typeface Layouts

Reflection
For this post we had to come up with 4 coverlines using typography to make them look more unique and intriguing.
Firstly, for the top coverline I decided to use a variety of different fonts (serif and sans serif) and colours but th main thing is that I made the ‘HT’ big and added ‘evin’ and ‘auckoor’ to show that he is the main focus of the story. I also used a mixtures of height of the words as teh first 2 words are located halfway up the H as this makes the magazine informal.
For ‘Utopia Review’ I ensured to put the text on a -25 degree angle to make it look more suffisticated and professional. this is further expressed by the fact that I used a Serif font called ‘Rellington’ for the second word. however this may not be as suitable for the genre as my target audience is more younger people.
For the ’10 tips from Lil Wayne’ I decided to use red for the important parts of the coverline as this makes them stand out more. I also used a serif font for these words so that it looks more aesthetic and eye pleasing. For the positioning of the words in the cover line I made the ’10’ go above the other words and the ‘Lil Wayne’ below to make it more interactive.
For ‘The Secrets of Hip Hop’ I decided to put a white box through the middle of the ‘The Secrets of’ and wrote ‘Hip Hop’ in the middle. I used a serif font for the large words and a sans serif font for the Hip Hop to represent that the actual hip hop part is imformal but ‘The Secrets of’ sounds intriguing so I made that look more safisticated.
Focus Forward
Since I have completed this task I will be able to add some elements of typography and make it look more expressive. Adding cover lines that are bold and interesting makes the reader more likely to read it and want to read more.
Contents page second draft
Reflection
This is the second draft of my blog in which I looked at the comments that Ella left for my first draft and made changes.
What’s new
- Firstly I have added text instead of the placeholder text and used the headline I made in an earlier blog post to fill my contents page.
- I changed the position of the ‘Contents’ on the page so that it looks more creative.
- I added an image of a different model so that all of the images aren’t just of one model.
- I changed the Font of the magazine title as I have changed that for the second draft of my front cover.
What’s next
- I may want to add a drop shadow to either one of the images I have used or the magazine title so that it looks like the page is more engaging.
- I need to make the magazine title larger as it is in the middle of a large bit of empty space so it could be better fitted.
- I need to minimize the size of the image in the top right as the little amount of text overlapping it hard to read and it is too close to the text below it.
Overall I think that the contents page is coming on very well and I just need to make a few more small changes to make it complete.
Double Page Spread First Draft
Reflection
Above is my first draft of my double page spread.
Positives:
- I made sure to use all of the space given to me as I made sure the image of Hevin is large and very noticable, this is good as it means the reader sees him whilst reading the article on him.
- I used a range of different fonts within my spread for the different elements of the spread. For example I used a different font for the Byline to the standfirst.
- I used a gradient in the background behind the image of Hevin which is very effective as the cross over is behind Hevin so it looks like one side of the image is white and one black.
Things to improve on:
- I could have used Photoshop to edit the image so that he is black and white as the image I used the model is wearing a bright costume and the rest of the spread is only black and white.
- I think the text placement of the Headline could be better as it is in the colomn where the fold of the page is so the viewer may not be able to see the name.
- I may want to make the Byline a bit smaller as it might take the attention of the viewer more than the text due to it being a larger font.
- I could have applied a drop shadow to the image of Hevin to make it jump out more.
- I need to add page numbers to the double page spread.
Front cover draft 2
Reflection
Whats New
- I decided to try a different colour scheme for this design.
- I used a different model for my star image so that I could get a look at what another star image would look like.
- I added a price tag
- I tried to used more of a mix of colours in the cover lines and used more professional font which attract the reader’s attention.
What’s Next
- I need to add a bar code to my magazine
- I could add a gradient to the background to show a bit more activity on the page.
- I could also add a pug to the front cover to make it look more like a magazine front cover.
Overall I think that should stick with the other star image as it has more revelence to the article and because it suits the vibe of the magazine more.
Draft Feature Article
This is the plan that I made for my article.

My 1st draft
Upcoming artist Hevin Tauckoor releases his epic first album!
Introducing our newest trendsetter Hevin Tauckoor who had great success on his song ‘Torode’s Grove’ releases his first album ever! Hevin recently got noticed in the hip hop scene with his song called ‘Torode’s Grove’ which went viral and got to the top of the UK top 10 charts due it being featured to a dance which was uploaded to famous Tik Tok star ‘Wilfred Bony’ this was due to the catchy beat and rhythm the song consisted of because it had traits of the reggae and sega genres. Off the back of this recent success Hevin has an album which he has just released. Read on to find out Hevin’s thoughts on the album.
Hevin Tauckoor is a very talented, young 20 year old musician from the island of Mauritius. Hevin released his first song 6 months ago other than little pieces of music he has made in his youth and it has only just started to pick up but this may be a big turning point to propel him to the next step. Hevin describes that the album is influenced by his experiences on growing up in Mauritius and how he was influenced heavily by music from a very young age due to the culture in Mauritius. He wants to reveal the impact in which growing up in an area which he didn’t have much had on his ability to make music. Hevin displays that he had no access to a studio or recording equipment when he was younger so he would spend his free time writing rap verses and recording them on his Camcorder camera with his friends. Hevin is very pleased with how the album is coming along so maybe with the momentum he has he may take off and reach the next level in his music career to keep him at the top of the charts.
We managed to catch up with Hevin and interview him:
Q- Do you think that this album is what will push you to the next step in your career?
A- Well I have thoroughly enjoyed the production stage of this album and I think that it is very good. I hope that it is what can make me known as a serious artist not just a tik tok musician and show the world that it doesn’t matter how much money you have there is always a way to success.
Q- Do you have a favourite song on the album and if so why?
A- My favourite song would have to be between ‘Peace & Destruction’ or ‘Fake Friends’ for different reasons. Firstly, ‘Peace & Destruction’ I like the lyricism that I used and the deeper meaning of the song which is that that world is a mixture of good and evil so young people need to be careful that they don’t go down the wrong path as they travel through life. Then for ‘Fake Friends’, which is one of my favourites due to the beat I used and I think that people will enjoy it.
Hevin has a very hopeful future ahead of him and off the back of his new album I think that he will become noticed by a lot more people due to its unique nature. Also because Hevin is so young he has lots of time to have a long and exciting career. Due to Hevin Tauckoor’s unique style of rap which he may have developed from living in Mauritius he will attract a whole new audience dabbling in the reggae and sega genres for some of the beats in his songs. This also makes his music unique from other artists and will attract new listeners from either of the genres.
